Weekend Recap

This was a somewhat busy weekend for us. Busy, in that we did a lot but in a way it was also relaxing.
Jeremy and I both took off Friday to go down to Troy for the memorial service for Prof. Warden. It was nice to see some people from college and to remember such an incredible man. I hope that when I die my memorial service is something like his. No one could say anything bad about him, not that you would talk bad about the deceased at a memorial. The service was full of laughter and tears. Laughter from all the memories of Prof and tears for all we will miss. He truly was a remarkable man, always looking out for others and never worried about himself. One thing that was said about him really stuck with me. He was the kind of teacher that thought it was better for you to do something yourself than for him to do it for you. I hope that my students will realize that. It is no benefit to them if I do something for them, I would rather them get it wrong 100 times before they get it right and know how to do it rather than me doing it for them so we can move on. It was a bittersweet day in Troy on Friday.
Saturday was a good day. We slept until about 10 and then cooked waffles for breakfast and stayed in our pj's watching The Notebook until 2:30! It was nice to be a bum for a little while. Saturday was the day of our long run so we got dressed (bundled up) for our 3 mile run. It actually wasn't that bad. We made good time 27 min! Not bad for our first time. It was FREEZING and about halfway through it started sprinkling, luckily it didn't pour! After our run we ran to the grocery store and Home Depot for a few things and came home and made homemade pizza for dinner! Yum!
Sunday was the usual church 1st service, Sunday school, 2nd service. I am working the nursery front desk 2nd service which is why we stay for both. Plus, it is really better that Jeremy be at both services. We ate lunch with the in-laws and spent a good part of the afternoon over there watching a Disney promo DVD and getting excited about our trip in May to Disney World! I am super excited because I have never been! Sunday night was LifeGroup reunions. We had ours at Salsaritas (yummy!) and after dinner we went over to Rob and Rivers' house to play The Game of Things. It is one of the most fun games I have played! We had lots of laughs.
Monday I had an appointment with the ENT about my frequent sinus infections. It turns out they are caused by a deviated septum, which basically means the inside of my nose is crooked. My septum, the middle part inside my nose, veers severely to the right and it blocking part of my right sinus causing them to be infected more easily and it also hinders my breathing out of my right nostril. Because of the direction of the nerve endings it is also the cause of my frequent headaches. Finally, an answer! The downside to all of this useful info...surgery. Yes, that is right, I have to have surgery to correct it. The doctor assured me that I will not look any different and I shouldn't have any swelling or bruising afterward either. I will just have limited movement for 5 days. I am having the surgery on Feb. 24 and will have to be off work that whole week. Good thing I have 18 sick days! After surgery I will not be able to exercise or blow my nose for 2 weeks and I won't be able to lift anything, bend over or stoop down for 1 week. Lovely. I have never had surgery before so I am kinda nervous about being put under. It is outpatient and he said it only takes 30-45 minutes. He was really nice and I think it will be fine. I am just afraid of the unknown, well, and the known too- needles! I was reading the pamphlet and it said that I would have to get an IV. Not a fan of that! Hopefully they will let Jeremy back with me for that part or maybe they will put me out then give me an IV. I am TERRIFIED of needles! The good thing is that I am doing this the Tuesday after the 5k so hopefully I will not think too much about this and focus on the run instead. I told Jeremy I was not going to read anything online because all that would do is freak me out more, especially if I came up on a horror story of something that wasn't even what I was having!

Nathan had this done. He had the packing in for a week. He said the worst part was getting it out. Maybe you won't have to be packed. If you do, I will tell you, it is possibly the worst smell ever when it's pulled out. Good luck! You'll do great.

I'm with you, though, I HATE needles!!! But, you'll be fine! And you better hurry back to school!
