I must preface this by saying that I absolutely LOVE to run, it is my escape and most days it is the only thing that keeps me sane and Jeremy...not so much. I have always wanted to run a 5k but last year during the main race season I had all those foot problems which turned out to be plantar facitis. Now that I am equipped with GREAT running shoes and orthotic inserts every step of the way I am ready to go.
Friday afternoon a friend from college had posted on facebook that she was doing the Love Your Heart 10k in Auburn in a few weeks. I instantly looked up info on it. Well, the race is the first weekend in Feb. and I didn't run at all the past 2 weeks because of sinus issues so I didn't think there would be any way I would be ready to do a 10k in just 3 weeks of training. My usual everyday run is somewhere between 2 to 2.5 miles so that would be triple what I usually do. Then I thought that maybe I should do a 5k before I attempt a 10k. I wanted to do one that supported a worthy cause and that would close by. I found the Relay for Life Catch Me if You Can 5k in Troy. The route is a loop around campus, basically, what I ran most of my college career. And, it is not until Feb. 21. I got the great idea that Jeremy should do it with me, after all, when we go walking on summer nights we walk 3+ miles anyway all he has to do is learn to run that. I came up with this whole training program to ease him into running. I don't think that he is into the whole thing as I am. I am VERY competitive and have already stated that my goal is to run the 5k in 25 min or under. The good thing is that the girls get a 3 minute head start so we won't even be running together.
This week we are running 1 mile Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday then doing strength training for 20-30 minutes. Saturday will be our long day with 3.5 miles running/walking at 2 minute intervals.
Last week I got the Nike + Sport kit for my iPod and yesterday was the first day I was able to use it since I was sick last week. It has a built in pedometer and it monitors your workout, telling you how far you ran, how long and how many calories you burned. It also tells you your pace. Yesterday our pace was 8'52'/mile. Not bad for day 1. Hopefully this means we can improve this and have a good race time.
My new best friend...You can also upload all your results onto the Nike + website and track your progress.

ok. First of all, if you ever see me running...take off! It will mean only one thing...someone bigger than me (that I couldn't take in a fight) is chasing me and gonna kill me.
Secondly, good for you...I think it's a worthy cause and you have to do something with all that energy you have! ;-)
Also, grossing me out on the spider story below!!! AHHHHH!!! I hate all bugs, spiders, etc.!
