Today when I was cleaning house I came across a dead spider and was reminded of a funny incident that happened the first weekend after Jeremy and I got married. It is funny now. It was in no way funny then.
But first, a little background information...
In case you didn't know this about me, I am VERY organized and ritualistic. I love to have a schedule for doing things like laundry, cleaning and cooking. I decided when we got married that Thursday would be laundry and cleaning day so we could enjoy the weekends with a clean house. (Yes, I realize today is Saturday and the first sentence says I cleaned house, but I was sick on Thursday.) The exception is sheets. I change sheets on Saturdays and we wash and dry them Saturday morning.
My mom always washed sheets and towels together so that is all I ever knew, so the first week we were married I did the same thing. Well, since I cleaned the bathroom on Thursday that meant I put out clean towels because everyone knows that you don't leave dirty towels out in a clean bathroom. I wasn't going to change the sheets until Saturday so I put the pile of dirty towels at the bottom of the linen closet and went on about my business.
Saturday morning rolls around and I change the sheets and take the sheets and the towels to wash them. Jeremy was in the kitchen making breakfast and I walk in there (our washer and dryer are off the kitchen in our house) and drop the dirty linens into the floor to start the washing machine and when I drop them the towels fall out of pile and out runs at least 100 tiny spiders and a momma spider. I started screaming, jumping up and down and crying. Then I ran out of the kitchen checking myself for spiders. Jeremy comes into the living room wondering what all the fuss is about and then sees all the spiders. Needless to say I didn't go back into the kitchen and poor Jeremy was left to kill and clean up the spiders. I wouldn't even eat breakfast in there after that, I was too grossed out. Actually, I wouldn't go back into the kitchen until it was cleaned!
Nevertheless, after that incident I no longer wait until Saturday to wash towels.
