Today was my big day that I have been "preparing for" for a while. I took my first shot at taking my Adobe Photoshop Certified Expert test today. I have taught Photoshop for 2 years and took classes on it in college and read several books. I didn't think the test was going to be that hard so I didn't really spend as much time studying as I should have. Monday of this week I realized that there were going to be some things on the test that I wasn't very familiar with because of what I use Photoshop for. I spent ALL DAY yesterday watching training videos trying to do some last minute cramming before the test. When I say ALL DAY I mean 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. with a one hour lunch break and an hour workout break. Needless to say that when I went to bed last night I was exhausted, overwhelmed and stressed. Did I mention that I am in Houston right now? We flew here Tuesday night for Jeremy to attend the WFX conference. I don't have a car so I had to get a taxi from the hotel to the test center. Well the nice bellman got me a taxi when I left here. When I arrived at the test center I realized I had no idea how to get a taxi to get back. I am not accustomed to depending on others for transportation so I was stressing out before I even started my test because I was in a very unfamiliar place with no way out. I arrived at the test center 30 minutes early so they let me take the test early. It is a computerized test, 74 multiple choice questions. There were several questions that were very easy, almost too easy for a certification test. There were other questions that I had no idea, I just guessed and then there were questions that were worded all kind of weird and confusing ways to make you second guess yourself. Sadly, I failed the test by 1 question.
I am not the kind of person that usually checks back over my work. My dad always told me to go with my gut because that is usually right. Well, all the stress had me worried so I went back and checked all my answers and changed about 5 or 6 of them. Now, after the fact, I wonder how many I changed were correct. That probably cost me a passing score.
But I realize that up until this week I was a little to cocky and confident that I knew it all. Now, I am a little more humble...ok a lot humbler. I think it was probably a good thing that I got put in my place today. I really do need to spend some more time learning some stuff in Photoshop if I want to be certified. I don't want to pass by the skin of my teeth. I want to pass with flying colors. I am going to be a more dedicated student and I am going to try again in 4 weeks. This has definitely taught me a lesson. No matter how much I know, I always need to know more! Ha!
In retrospect, it probably wasn't the best idea for me to do this here but you live and you learn.
I will leave you with a few photos from fall at my house. When I pulled up at my house Monday I was blown away by the beauty of fall happening in front of my house so I had to get a few shots...
